HIGHFIELD ALUMINIUM HULL DINGHIES in MALTA

March 14, 2016

Highfield inflatables have evolved from many years of development in some of the toughest conditions in the world, the Great Barrier Reef of tropical Northern Australia. They are a direct descendant of the Australian Swift (www.swiftmarine.com.au) range of aluminium hulled RIBs now in service for over 20 years.

Swift has supplied boats for leisure as well as professional uses with most of Australia’s Water Police and government agencies having a number of Swift RIBs in their fleet.
Tough, reliable and thoroughly tested, HIGHFIELD comes to you with a champions pedigree.

Aluminium has long been the hull material of choice in many parts of the world due to its strength, ease of repair, versatility and above all its weight saving characteristics. Remember, because aluminium won’t soak up water, your Highfield will weigh the same in 10 years as it did the day it left the showroom.

To ensure the long life of your Highfield RIB, we only use top quality materials. High tensile, marine-grade aluminium is powder coated and baked to ensure a smooth and durable finish, which is more eco-friendly. Our tube fabrics are either Valmex® PVC from the reputed Melher Texnologies in Germany, or ORCA® Hypalon, from the standard bearer in commercial tube design, Pennel and Flipo in France.

Every Highfield boat is rigorously tested to strict ISO standards before leaving the factory. This comprehensive testing of all of our component parts during manufacture, and our 2 year structural warranty on all of our boats, means you can have complete confidence in your Highfield RIB.

Tests conducted on fabrics and seams:
– Fabric mechanical properties and glue-ability (ISO 1421, ISO 4674 and ISO 2411)
– Heat test and seam strength tests (ISO 6185)
– Air tightness (ISO 6185)
– Accelerating weathering test (ISO 4892)

Test conducted on the powder coating:
– Pre-treatment (BS EN 12206-1)
– Thickness (ISO 2178)
– Adhesion of the coating on the substrate (ISO 2409 and ISO 4624)
– Accelerating weathering test (ISO 11507)
– Salt spray test (ISO 9227)

LIGHT WEIGHT

The Highfield aluminium hulls bring strength and light weight to the boats. As a consequence the boats require less horse power to propel them which means smaller outboard engine for same propulsion, lower fuel consumption and less CO2 emission.

ALUMINIUM

Aluminium recycling is the process by which scrap aluminium can be reused in products after its initial production. The process involves simply re-melting the metal, which is far less expensive and energy intensive than creating new aluminium. Recycling scrap aluminium requires only 5% of the energy used to make new aluminium. The nature of aluminium makes the material one of the few “infinitely recyclable” materials used in society; it can be recycled infinitely with no loss in quality.

POWDER COATING

It is a paint in powder form which is electrically charged as it is sprayed onto a surface to be coated and then baked in an oven, where the powder particles melt and fuse into a smooth coating. The result is a uniform, durable, high quality environmentally safe and attractive finish.

There are several advantages of powder coating over conventional liquid coatings:
– No volatile organic compounds
– No solvents, meaning reduced fire risk, reduced risk in application and disposal of waste
– Powder can easily be recycled as extraction systems gather excess powder
– Raw material research has produced powders that can be cured at lower temperatures meaning lower energy consumption
– Thermosetting powder coatings often have higher chemical / physical resistance – reducing cost and fuel consumption involved in transportation and storage.
