In the cockpit, the absence of side decks means plenty of cockpit capacity – and the bulk of that is used for a versatile arrangement of starboard deck furniture. That involves a twin helm seat that uses a reversing backrest so you can face the rest of the cockpit occupants. It also offers a large sunpad-topped box that faces back across a dining table to a three-man transom bench that stops short of the port side to generate space for a passageway to the swim platform.

Aesthetically, in place of the bulging roundedness of the old models, the new Bayliner Ciera 8 appears to offer far more pronounced and modern angles – in everything from the raked screen and the forward-facing arch to the foredeck mouldings, the hull windows, the cushion contours and the prickly arrangement of triangular panels on the ultra-modern two-tier dash.
